George Washington Allstot was the youngest son of Jacob and Mary Williams Allstot. Mary Williams was the sister of Margaret Williams, who married John Altstatt. George was born in Rockingham County, Virginia. His grandfather, Nicholas Alstott, had moved from Berks County, Pennsylvania to Rockingham County, Virginia, in the 1780s, right after the Revolutionary War.

George was a wheelright by occupation and married his first wife, Margaret Coombs, on April 23, 1823 in Clark County, Indiana. George rented property from his brother, John Bartlett Allstot, and both men were close until John's death in 1853.

George and Margaret had four children. Margaret Allstot died in 1834 and George married Nancy Norton on April 18, 1836, in Parke County, Indiana. George and Nancy had ten children. Sometime in 1853, George W. Allstot moved his family from Parke County, Indiana, to be near his son, Edward Allstot who had moved to Dubuque County, Iowa, around 1846. George and Nancy's first seven children were born in Parke County, Indiana, and their last three were born in Dubuque County, Iowa. Around 1870, the Allstots moved to Nebraska. George died in Lancaster County, Nebraska, in January 1885.
