two offspring. Johannes died in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania around 1819. The two oldest sons of Johannes and Hanna, Jacob Alstadt and John Alstadt moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania around 1820 and found wives. Another son, Peter Alstadt followed them later and was recorded in Bedford Co., in the 1840 census.

Peter Alstadt was a sadler by trade and owned a shop at 10 Penn Street in Reading, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Derst in 1765, in Reading, Pennsylvania. Peter died around the age of 35 years in 1769, leaving a wife and two small children, Johannes S. and Elizabeth. Sarah Alstadt married Jacob Meyer on April 16, 1772, and the Alstadt children were brought up in the Meyer household in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Johannes S. Alstadt married Hanna Derst around 1788, and this marriage probably produced seven children. Hannah died around 1814, and on February 27, 1817, Johannes married Hannah Marsteller. This union probably produced

Peter Alstadt was a grandson of Johann Caspar Altstadt. Peter Alstadts father, Johann Martin Altstatt had come to America in 1729, and settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1734, the probable year of Peter's birth.
Pennsylvania. Samuel Alstadt served in the Union Army in the Civil War in Company C, 204th Pennsylvania Artillery. He moved to Iowa after the war and married Mary Mowery in 1868. Jacob Warren Aldstadt,(pictured bottom left) the sixth child of John and Elizabeth Wisegarver Aldstadt married Sarah Ellen Anders in 1863, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and later resettled in Randolph County, Indiana.

The spelling of Aldstadt was adopted by most of the male line of Peter Alstadt living in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, after the Civil War period except for the descendants of Samuel Alstadt and his brother George Henry Alstadt who did not live near or have contact with the Bedford County Aldstadts after the Civil War period.
