John Alstott, the oldest son of Daniel and Sarah, was a cooper by trade and moved to Versailles, Illinois, while in his 20s. There he married Frances Bryam. John served in Co. G, 3rd Regiment of Illinois Cavalry in the Civil War. They moved to the Indian Territory, then to Colorado during the Colorado gold rush. Part of that family joined the settlers who moved to Cragmyle, Alberta, Canada, before World War I.
