Ferdinand Allstadt arrived in the United States in 1846. He was born in Verne, Westphalia, Germany, on May 10, 1825. He married Albertina Schroder, also from Verne. Ferdinand was a hatter by occupation.

Ferdinand and Albertina lived in Union Hill, New Jersey in the 1850s and had twin sons, Jacob William Allstadt and Ferdinand Allstadt while living there. William and Ferdinand both followed their father into the occupation of hatter. The family moved to the lower east side of New York City in 1865.

William married Louise Messinger (pictured to left) in 1877. They had three children. William Allstadt died in 1885. A year later Louise Allstadt married her late husband's twin brother, Ferdinand. Ferdinand and Louise had three children.
